Dr. Levy is Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, Chief
Scientific Officer and Co-Founder of Paratek Pharmaceuticals. A
pioneer and world-renowned expert in the field of antibiotic resistance,
Dr. Levy also serves as Director of the Center for Adaptation Genetics
and Drug Resistance at Tufts University School of Medicine, where
he holds professorships in the Department of Molecular Biology and
Microbiology and in the Department of Medicine. Dr. Levy has over
30 years of research experience on the mechanisms of microbial drug
resistance and, among other work, discovered the efflux mechanism
of resistance to tetracycline and the mar operon. He is a
past President of the American Society for Microbiology and serves
as the President of the Alliance for Prudent Use of Antibiotics.
Dr. Levy received his BA degree from Williams College and MD from
the University of Pennsylvania. He has received honorary degrees
in biology from Wesleyan University and Des Moines University.
