Dr. Gary J. Noel is Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Paratek Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Noel is a Fellow
of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and is board
certified by The American Board of Pediatrics Subboard of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. He is a graduate of
Dartmouth College and Cornell University Medical College. After completing a residency in Pediatrics at The
New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, and a fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at The Maxwell
Finland Laboratory and Boston City Hospital, Dr. Noel joined the full-time faculty of the Department of
Pediatrics at Cornell University. He was an Attending Pediatrician at The New York Hospital from 1985 to 2000
where was a Principal Investigator in NIH-funded laboratory- and clinical-based projects and served as the
Chief of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Immunology and an Associate Professor of Pediatrics from 1993 to
2000. His research interests include macrophage biology, bacterial pathogenesis, HIV disease in infancy and
childhood, the effects of antimicrobials on immune function and assessment of safety and efficacy of
anti-infectives. He has co-authored two texts in Pediatric Infectious Diseases, and over 60 peer reviewed
publications. Dr. Noel joined RWJ Pharmaceutical Research Institute in April 2000 and served in several roles
in the Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical research and development enterprise. His last role before retiring
from Johnson & Johnson in 2010 was that of Franchise Medical Leader in the Infectious Diseases and Vaccine
Therapeutic Area. Dr. Noel is a member of the PhRMA Antibiotic Task Force and the Foundation for the National
Institutes of Health – Biomarkers Consortium Initiative Working Group which has been tasked with making
recommendations for new trial designs aimed at establishing the efficacy of antibiotics in treating serious
infections involving the skin and soft tissues and the lower respiratory tract. Dr. Noel is on the volunteer
faculty at Cornell Weill Medical College where he is a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics. He is a founding
Board Member of the Foundation for Treatment of Children with AIDS (FTCA) and has served on the Executive
Boards of the FTCA, AIDSPAN and LeukoSight Inc..
