Tetracycline (TET) Program
Paratek is applying proprietary chemistries
to modify existing antibiotics in order to circumvent or block
the resistance mechanisms employed by bacteria. Paratek has developed
and obtained patent protection for over 1,000 proprietary derivatives
of the well-known antibiotic tetracycline to date.
Importantly, Parateks new tetracyclines can
inhibit bacteria that are known to be resistant to existing antibiotics.
Some of Parateks tetracycline derivatives are bactericidal (kill
bacteria), while classic tetracyclines are bacteriostatic (stop
growth of bacteria). In both in vitro and in vivo
studies, Parateks new compounds have been shown to be highly potent,
and yet have maintained excellent toxicity and safety profiles.
Paratek is currently focused on developing novel
tetracyclines for use in different antibiotic indications. Paratek
is also developing proprietary tetracycline derivatives for a number
of other antibacterial and non-antibacterial uses, including ophthalmic
and dermatologic uses and as antiparasitic and antifungal agents.
