MAR Program
Addressing discoveries in bacterial genomics, Paratek has identified small molecules that inhibit the MAR (multiple adaptational response)
locus in E. coli and other bacteria. This locus controls a bacterium's ability to cause infection and develop resistance to antibiotics.
The discovery of Mar inhibitors introduces a new paradigm for the treatment of infectious diseases. These drugs will act to prevent
life-threatening and debilitating infections before they develop into an infection. MAR inhibitors will not kill bacteria or inhibit their
growth, and they may be less likely to foster bacterial resistance.
